Summary of Responsibilities:

The Director of Residential Services is responsible for the overall supervision, oversight, and administration of residential treatment programming within the parameters established by the President and CEO, Board of Directors and applicable regulatory, accrediting, and statutory guidelines by:  

  • Ensuring that high quality, effective treatment programs are provided in all residential sites and that desirable treatment outcomes are attained.
  • Overseeing and administering the residential program budget approved by the Board of Directors and ensures that programming is cost-effective and efficient. 
  • Selecting qualified staff in budgeted positions to meet program needs.
  • Helping develop and oversees policies in the area of residential programs and ensures that these policies and procedures, as well as all practices, are consistent with state licensing, municipal regulations, and The Joint Commission regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as a member of the AK Child & Family Leadership Team and as such may be called to serve as a resource to the Board of Directors at the discretion of the President and CEO.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical and Administrative Supervision: Oversee and provide guidance to the Director of Spiritual Life, Residential Clinical Therapist treatment team, Treatment Program Administrative Manager (TPAM), Treatment Program Supervisors (TPS), Residential Behavior Health Specialist (RBHS), Recreation and Education Program, and the nursing team, the latter in collaboration with the agency Medical Director. This position is supervised by the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO). 
  • Leadership Team: Collaborate with other members of the leadership team to align clinical practices with the agency’s overarching strategic goals. Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiative that enhance service delivery and student outcomes.
  • Team Building and Leadership: While providing clinical leadership and support to our residential staff, the DRS will establish clear performance measures with clear expectations and metrics. This will ensure that all team members take ownership of their responsibilities to deliver high quality trauma informed care, that align with the Sanctuary Model of care. Establish and facilitate a strong staff developmental program that will foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, and promote personal and professional growth. Facilitate conflict resolution among staff, and between staff and students, employing mediation techniques to maintain a harmonious living and working environment.
  • Program Design: Oversee the daily operations of the residential program, ensuring that all services are delivered in a safe, efficient, and effective matter. Help develop and actively implement policies and procedures to enhance the quality of life for all students, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local regulations, and agencies core values. Ensure high-quality treatment standards by providing ongoing training, coaching and supervision to staff.
  • Evidence-Based Practices: Champion the use of evidence-based and promising practices in the residential programs. Implement and deliver an effective and high quality continuum of care, while adhering to the requirements of the Joint Commission, the State of Alaska Division of Behavioral Health, Licensing standards, and Medicaid regulations. Create an environment that fosters and monitors programs that support, the physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being of students, while adapting services to meet diverse needs.
  • Data Assessment: Use data to assess service effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities and support continuous improvements. Monitor compliance with documentation standards and regulatory requirements to ensure timely, high quality records that support effective treatment and continuity of care.
  • Partnerships: Coordinate with external agencies and stakeholders to secure funding, resources, and partnerships that enhance the quality of care for the residential program.
  • Fiduciary Responsibility: In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, monitor the budget for residential services, including forecasting, allocation of funds, monitoring expenses and revenue projections to ensure continued financial sustainability. In collaboration with maintenance and Director of Performance Improvement, conduct regular assessments of facilities, initiating maintenance and upgrades to ensure the safety and comfort of the students and staff.

Pay:

  • $94,000 + DOE
  • Bonus in the amount of 1.5% of annual salary after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period and another at the 1-year anniversary.

Supervision and Coordination of Services:
  • The Director of Residential Services demonstrates supervision and leadership skills to successfully administer and direct residential programming.
  •  S/he has experience in grant writing, budget development and oversight, and clinical policy development.
  •  The Director of Residential Services demonstrates solid clinical understanding of child and adolescent psychopathology and treatment alternatives.
  •  S/he has a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic milieu of residential treatment and is able to train and model these treatment concepts.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The Director of Residential Services demonstrates supervision and leadership skills to successfully administer and direct residential programming.
  • They have experience in grant writing, budget development and oversight, and clinical policy development.
  • The Director of Residential Services demonstrates solid clinical understanding of child and adolescent psychopathology and treatment alternatives.
  • They have a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic milieu of residential treatment and is able to train and model these treatment concepts.

Education and Experience:

  • The Director of Residential Services is at least twenty-one years of age and holds a master’s or doctorate in psychology, social work, or a related field. 
  • They are licensed in the State of Alaska as a psychologist, psychological associate, licensed clinical social worker, licensed professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or psychiatric nurse. 
  • The Director of Residential Services has at least five years’ experience in the provision of clinical services in the field of child/adolescent mental health, a substantial portion of which is in residential treatment. 
  • The Director has demonstrated positive leadership and supervisory skills for at least three years in the field of mental health, preferably in child/adolescent mental health. 
  • They also have sufficient computer literacy to meet the required responsibilities of the position.

Physical Demands:
  • Possesses the ability to use a computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment (such as copiers, telephone and fax) and a variety of software such as spreadsheets and email.
  • The DRS must have the ability to utilize their personal vehicle to attend to responsibilities in all locations, attend meetings in person or via teleconference, and represent AK Child & Family in the community.
  • The DRS must have the ability to travel to conferences and to represent the organization in state or national associations.
  • They must also have exceptional ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, within the agency, throughout the community and the state
