A perfectionist with intense attention to detail, exceptional machining skills, and creative problem-solving capabilities will be well suited for a challenging position in Creare’s Shop. Creare is an R&D environment where new technologies are developed in prototype quantities. Machining jobs range from basic ones to those requiring the utmost precision where tolerances are often less than one ten-thousandth of an inch. Hardware examples include miniature gas-bearing turbomachines that spin at over 500,000 rpm, a cryogenic refrigerator on the Hubble Space Telescope, turbomolecular vacuum pumps on Mars, and aircraft carrier equipment. Duties include working collaboratively with engineers, developing process plans and fixture designs, manual machining, and inspection.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant machining experience or 5 years of relevant experience with vocational/apprenticeship training in the Machine trades (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is required. Ideal candidates would have the ability to work on manual lathes and mills with experience in aerospace and/or prototype environments. The ability to program, set up, and operate CNC machines would provide additional value but is not required since the primary responsibilities for this position will be manual machining. A creative mind, high energy, strong initiative, and good interpersonal and communication skills are required to excel at Creare. Training will be provided by working alongside other experienced Creare Machinists.
Creare offers a competitive compensation package, including but not limited to a substantial annual bonus (e.g., 20% of annual salary for 2024), industry-leading 401(k) contributions and plan options, a range of medical plan offerings, and the potential for signing or startup bonuses. Mutual respect, teamwork, and the ability to do the highest quality work define our staff and work environment. Starting salary range of $30 - $40 per hour is based on level of education completed, and years of relevant experience.
