General Description:
The Maintenance Mechanic II is expected to participate in all phases of maintenance, alteration, repair, and construction activities. This employee will build, erect, install, and repair forms, structures, and other fixtures made from wood, metal, and other materials as needed to assist with various types of construction projects. This work involves performing skilled tasks in trades such as painting, carpentry, masonry, etc. This work involves physical exertion, at times in undesirable environmental conditions.

Principal Duties:

  • Use of hand and power tools. Replace or repair floors, doors, screens, and partitions and install and repair related hardware fixtures; apply paint to interior and exterior of buildings with brush, roller or spray gun; patch cement sidewalks and make minor repairs to brick and stone masonry; make minor roofing and sheet metal repairs, make minor electrical repairs.
  • Construct building frameworks for walls and floors
  • Schedule, prepare, implement and complete projects
  • Operate power mowers, weed whackers, and blowers for landscaping purposes
  • Operate shovels, power salters, snow blowers and plows to remove snow from impoundment and community lots along with Center City parking garages and sidewalks
  • Provide knowledge and overall guidance during construction projects to appropriate staff
 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in building maintenance trades such as carpentry, painting, electricity, roofing, and cement finishing.
  • Prepare, develop, and finish projects, quantifying material for completion of projects
  • Operate tools such as saws, trowels, shovel, rake, jointers, drills, and air compressors
  • Adhere to local building code and safety guidelines as required by OSHA
  • Measures, marks, and arranges materials to establish layout based on blueprints and instructions from supervisors
  • Proper use and care of tools and equipment used for maintenance tasks as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ability to make and apply mathematical computations for general design and layout of maintenance projects.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete construction projects
  • Dividing concrete construction projects into different stages and determine appropriate time and material required for each stage
  • Pouring, smoothing, and leveling of concrete using a rake, trowel, float, and a screed
  • Application of sealant and hardening components
  • Molding and construction expansion joints using joiners and edging tools

Minimum Acceptable Training, Experience, and Education:

  • Education equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Minimum 7 years concrete/masonry work or successful completion of 4 or more years of an accredited vocational or apprentice program
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Safety Training and Certification

  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • BOBCAT Certification
  • FORKLIFT Certification

Working Hours:  Monday through Friday during normal business hours and as required

INTERNAL APPLICANTS WHO HAVE AT LEAST TEN (10) YEARS OF SERVICE WILL HAVE FOUR (4) POINTS ADDED TO THEIR TOTAL SCORE. APPLICANTS WHO ACHIEVE A COMBINED SCORE OF 36 POINTS FROM THE ASSESSMENT TEST, EMPLOYEE EVALUATION, AND ATTENDANCE, BASED ON THE WEIGHT EACH CATEGORY IS GIVEN, WILL BE INVITED TO THE ORAL INTERVIEW PHASE OF THE PROCESS. ONLY THOSE APPLICANTS WITH A COMBINED TOTAL SCORE OF 70 WILL BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBILITY LIST.
