Fits together parts and subassemblies to operate, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, mechanical equipment, tracked vehicles, automotive vehicles, vans, cranes, forklifts, transporters, etc. Determines parts, tolerances, electromechanical interfaces from blueprints, technical books and specification sheets. Work requires practical application of technical knowledge or mechanical principles, ability to determine malfunctions and skill to put equipment in required operating condition.
Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically can be solved by properly interpreting manufacturer's manuals or similar documents in working on various equipment. Work is reviewed by higher level technician or supervisor for compliance with accepted practices and work assignments. May provide technical guidance to lower level technicians. May be assigned other duties within his or her capabilities.
Qualification requirements include demonstration of satisfactory skill and good performance with two years of progressive experience in the specific field in addition to graduation from a two-year technical program at an accredited institution, or a total of five years progressive experience in the specific field. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a CDL class A with no restriction endorsement. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Work will include associated cross-utilization into these and other jobs as required. May require some overtime and weekend work.
