POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Typical work assignments include the design, development, and testing of parts and subassemblies for the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and mechanical equipment to include tracked vehicles, automotive vehicles, transports, forklifts, etc.  Job assignments would typically be more difficult than routine Mechanical Technician duties and would include adaptation of functionally equivalent parts when OEM parts are not available, designing repair procedures for parts not normally repaired, but which must be reused because replacement parts are not available in a timely and/or cost-effective manner. Determines parts, tolerances, and electromechanical interfaces with or without the aid of blueprints and specification sheets.  Establishes shop practices and procedures.  Develops equipment maintenance and operational procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have knowledge of mechanical engineering technology.  Must have the ability to apply technical principles and develop test or repair techniques and to evaluate the change in performance or signature characteristics which may result from modification and/or adaptation of nonstandard parts or subassemblies.  Must have ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications. May be assigned other duties within his or her capabilities.

 

Must have demonstrated satisfactory skills and good performance in addition to graduation from a two-year technical program at an accredited institution, with five years progressive experience in the specific field or a total of eight years of progressive experience the specific field. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a CDL class A with no restriction endorsement. Applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

 

Work will include associated cross-utilization into these and other jobs as required.  May require some overtime and weekend work.
