POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Operates, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of electronic equipment associated with Instrumentation radars; personal computers and peripherals; and industrial measuring, monitoring and controlling equipment. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operations.  Uses FileMaker Pro and Microsoft software products to perform daily duties.

Sets up, operates and maintains a variety of electronic instrumentation equipment.  Applies technical knowledge to solve problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.  Examples of such problems include identifying failures in electronic circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.  Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments. Verifies that Instrumentation radars are operating within OEM and support parameters prior to test support.  Ensures site records comply with established procedures.

Work typically requires understanding of the interrelationships of circuits. Exercises independent judgment in identifying equipment failures, performing electronic circuit analyses, calculating waveforms, and troubleshooting by tracing relationships in signal flow.  Uses test instruments such as oscilloscopes, pulse generators, spectrum analyzers, meters, and complex computer control equipment.  Work may be reviewed by supervisor and higher level technicians for compliance with accepted practices.  Provides technical guidance to lower level technicians.  Performs other duties as required.  Communicates and works effectively with supervisors, coworkers, Government and other personnel.

Work will include associated cross-utilization into other jobs as required.  May require TDY, overtime and weekend work.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from a two year electronics training program or three years of work experience in the electronics field.  An additional 18 months experience in operating and maintaining Instrumentation radars along with completion of any Group 1 Instrumentation Radar OJT program is required. Working knowledge of WSMR data formats (RADS & PAS). Understanding of Personal Computers, peripherals and software. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Four years experience in troubleshooting RF problems in transmitters, receivers, RF cabling, antenna servo systems and digital circuitry. Understanding of VME and IBM compatible computers, peripherals and software. Knowledge of computer networks and network troubleshooting.
