POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Operates, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of optical equipment used to photograph high-speed test events such as NTSC video cameras, recorders, monitors, forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras, video switchers, distribution amplifiers, high-speed digital imagers, image motion compensation (IMC) cameras, high-speed rotating prism, pin-registered cameras, Kineto tracking systems, and other optical equipment common to the High Speed Test Track.  Familiarity of other support equipment also includes: fabrication techniques for special effects lighting; personal and industrial computers; and VME-based systems used for measuring and controlling equipmentMust be familiar with: multiple digital IO interface protocols; common operating systems; HSTT optics equipment-specific software; word processing; and spreadsheet programsApplies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skills in restoring equipment operations.  

 

Sets up, operates, and maintains a variety of electronic and optical instrumentation support equipmentApplies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documentsAbility to interpret and incorporate engineering changes to existing optical equipmentPerformance test electronic systems and equipment prior to test support to verify that operation is within OEM and test support parameters. 

  

Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of electronic control circuits and mechanical systemsExercises independent judgment in performing such tasks as circuit analyses, calculating waveforms, and tracing relationships in signal flowUses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector scopes, waveform monitors, and complex computer control equipmentWork may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practicesProvides technical guidance to lower level technicians. 

 

Work will include cross-utilization into other jobs as requiredPosition will require outdoor work and bridge/tower climbingThe position may require some overtime, weekend work, and possible TDY assignments. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstration of satisfactory skill and good performance in the particular field; three years progressive experience in the specific field in addition to graduation from a two-year resident course at a technical institute, or a total of six years progressive experience in the specific fieldDemonstrated expertise must include operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of: NTSC video equipment; FLIR cameras; high-speed digital imagers; Kineto tracking mount systems; IMC cameras; rotating prism camera systems; pin register camera systems; and fabrication techniques used for special effects lighting and optical supportMust possess a valid driver’s licenseApplicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
