Operates, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of optical equipment used to photograph high-speed test events such as NTSC video cameras, recorders, monitors, forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras, video switchers, distribution amplifiers, high-speed digital imagers, image motion compensation (IMC) cameras, high-speed rotating prism, pin-registered cameras, Kineto tracking systems, and other optical equipment common to the High Speed Test Track. Familiarity of other support equipment also includes: fabrication techniques for special effects lighting; personal and industrial computers; and VME-based systems used for measuring and controlling equipment. Must be familiar with: multiple digital IO interface protocols; common operating systems; HSTT optics equipment-specific software; word processing; and spreadsheet programs. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skills in restoring equipment operations.
Sets up, operates, and maintains a variety of electronic and optical instrumentation support equipment. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Ability to interpret and incorporate engineering changes to existing optical equipment. Performance test electronic systems and equipment prior to test support to verify that operation is within OEM and test support parameters.
Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of electronic control circuits and mechanical systems. Exercises independent judgment in performing such tasks as circuit analyses, calculating waveforms, and tracing relationships in signal flow. Uses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector scopes, waveform monitors, and complex computer control equipment. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. Provides technical guidance to lower level technicians.
Work will include cross-utilization into other jobs as required. Position will require outdoor work and bridge/tower climbing. The position may require some overtime, weekend work, and possible TDY assignments.
