SUMMARY:

Palliative care volunteers play a crucial role in supporting individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families. These volunteers, spanning all age groups, offer companionship, assist with practical tasks (such as transportation and light household chores), and provide emotional support to patients and their families.

POSSIBLE VOLUNTEER TASKS

Visitation to combat loneliness

  • Read, watch a movie, visit conversationally (bed side company)

Care Giver assistance

  • Provide Respite-Allow Caregiver to do errands, keep appts etc.
  • Build Ramps, install adaptive equipment, grab bars etc.
  • Move Hospital Bed, Chairs, or other furniture.
  • Provide a Meal
  • Plow Driveway
  • Mow Grass
  • Split/stack firewood

Team support

  • Donate DME such as (Bed pans, diapers, walkers, hospital bed, recliners, shower chair, ect.)
  • Fundraising
  • Volunteer recruitment

Clinical skills

  • Dressing changes
  • Assistance with hygiene
  • Transfer/repositioning
  • Medication management-loading med sets

Qualifications:

Qualifications include good physical health, emotional maturity, sensitivity, and reliability. Volunteers must be over the age of 18. Prospective volunteers must submit to a background check. Volunteers need to have a valid driver's license and complete a pre-employment drug screening.
