SUMMARY:

The Lab Coordinator at Sunshine Community Health Center is a vital member of our medical team, playing a pivotal role in the management of vaccines and onsite specimen collection processes. This position holds the responsibility of ensuring strict adherence to the requirements of a CLIA-waived site. Operating within the patient-centered medical home framework, the Lab Coordinator adopts a team-based and trauma-sensitive approach to deliver compassionate and effective healthcare services. The Lab Coordinator's contributions align with the organization's commitment to continuity and comprehensive efforts to enhance the overall well-being of the individuals we serve.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  1. Vaccine Management: Oversee the storage, handling, and distribution of vaccines according to established guidelines.
  2. Monitor vaccine inventory levels, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to cold chain management.
  3. Specimen Collection Processes:
  4. Manage and coordinate onsite specimen collection processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established protocols.
  5. Collaborate with healthcare providers to streamline specimen collection procedures.
  6. CLIA-Waived Site Compliance:
  7. Ensure strict adherence to CLIA-waived site requirements, maintaining necessary documentation and records.
  8. Collaborate with regulatory bodies to facilitate site inspections and ensure ongoing compliance.
  9. Team-Based Approach:
  10. Operate within a team-based approach, collaborating with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.
  11. Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
  12. Trauma-Sensitive Approach:
  13. Adopt a trauma-sensitive approach in all aspects of laboratory coordination, recognizing and addressing the potential impact on patients.
  14. Patient-Centered Medical Home Framework:
  15. Align laboratory processes with the patient-centered medical home framework, ensuring comprehensive and patient-focused care.
  16. Continuity of Care:
  17. Contribute to the organization's commitment to continuity of care, participating in initiatives that enhance overall patient well-being.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from a medical assistant training program, (or equivalent schooling) or on-the-job training at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer .

Other medical licenses or certifications may substitute. Minimum one-year experience in a health care setting. This position requires the completion of the COLA Lab Coordinator certification course or similar, certification as a Breath Alcohol Technician/DOT urine collection, and completion of the CDC “You Call The Shots” immunization education program within six months of hire. This position requires the acquisition of a Certified Medical Assistant certification within two years of hire if no other medical certification or license. Time requirement may be adjusted at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer.
