The focus of this position is to develop knowledge about insurance functions. Interns will develop skills necessary to be successful by working with and assisting underwriting professionals with daily assignments and special projects.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Gain experience in underwriting data collection, validation, and analysis for the underwriting process.
Achieve an understanding of underwriting guidelines and predictive analytics.
Participate in training and departmental meetings to gain an understanding of insurance underwriting fundamentals.
Provide administrative support for Underwriters as assigned by Underwriting Management.
Assist the Underwriting Team with special projects and tasks as assigned by Underwriting Management.
Gain knowledge of insurance industry.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Currently enrolled in at least a bachelor’s degree program in a business, finance, economics or related field from an accredited school.
Ability and willingness to learn and extend skills.
Ability to interpret and synthesize information from different functional business units.
Knowledge of basic computer applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective interpersonal verbal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
Ability to plan, organize, and complete detailed work independently and/or in a team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Repeated use of PC, telephone, and office machines.
Extended periods of sitting and concentrating.
Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing and reaching in an office environment.
Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
