Position Summary:

The Lead Painter will monitor and verify the accuracy and completion of all paperwork to ensure safety and timely delivery. Individual will supervise, perform, and preparation of the application protective finishes to aircraft components in accordance with repair station rules and specifications. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to locate, read and understand technical data including CMM, drawings, SRM, SOPM and other technical documents.
  • Must be able to locate, read and understand MSDS documents.
  • Monitoring shelf life and qty of supplies specific to the document, ordering when needed.
  • Establish work priorities and supervise the work of the paint department staff.
  • Operate required machinery and equipment in a proper manner following established safety rules. Utilize paint shop practice including reading blueprints, color charts, and basic measurements.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Work to shop orders, specifications, and verbal instruction
  • May be required to perform interior and exterior finishing, and paint small parts.
  • Prepare parts for painting by cleaning and masking, apply sealing compound, stenciling, and touch up painted surfaces.
  • Must use, wear and enforce required PPE within assigned production work area.
  • Operate required machinery and equipment in proper manner following established safety rules.
  • Provide technical assistance to Mechanic Assistance and Aircraft Painters as directed. 
  • Train, mentor, and supervise, fostering professional growth and technical expertise within the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of aircraft component paint techniques, including but limited too; larger surface area paint application, paint defect repair techniques, specialty landing gear paint requirements, special coating applications such as bond primer and ablative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
  • Follow standard operating procedures when using sealants, paint strippers, and corrosion-preventive chemicals and use protective equipment as required.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (GED).
  • 4 years’ experience in application of aircraft protective finishes and related experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to pass DOT drug and alcohol test.

  • No Travel for this position.

 Language:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

 Physical Demands:

  • Work Environment: 100% shop floor (warehouse and aviation repair shop)
  • Lifting: Maximum 50 lbs.
  • Carrying, Walking, Pushing, Climbing, Reaching.

 Working Conditions:

  • This position is in a machine shop and aviation repair shop environment.
  • Momentary exposure to high noises.
  • Exposure to chemicals and cleaning agents.
  • Personal Protection Equipment may be required for certain tasks.
