Summary:
NUTRITION ASSISTANT: 

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Nutrition Assistant is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager in coordination of the CACFP VIDA program in Valencia County in the PIBH Division. 


Minimum Qualification: 

  • Associate’s degree in culinary arts/nutrition and 2 years’ experience in either accounting for or administering child nutrition program; or any combination of education and experience equal to four years.
  • Must have strong computer skills.
  • Must be able to operate all modern office machines.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Must be able to follow and carry out written instructions quickly and accurately.


Preferred Qualifications:


Bilingual in Spanish. 


Job Characteristics/Physical Demands: 

  • This is a professional position, which requires organizational and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with Head Start employees, community residents, parents, vendors and government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulations concerning confidentiality.

     

  • Good general health and the ability to lift and carry 55 lbs. are essential. Must be able to stand, walk, bend and lift moderate to heavy loads. Fingerprint process and under the skin TB Skin Test are required. An initial physical exam is required and then periodically thereafter.

     

  • Frequent travel is required by employees and proof of satisfactory car insurance is required.

Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities (Not Inclusive): 

  • Assist the Nutrition Manager in the development and implementation of the Nutrition Work Plan and provides technical assistance to meet the nutritional standards of the program.
  • Assist with and be knowledgeable about the CACFP Application process.
  • Assist in the collection and compilation of CACFP information required for reimbursement. Prepare and file monthly reimbursement claim, forwarding to Nutrition Bureau in a timely manner.
  • Review and analyze Child Nutrition paperwork ensuring compliance with industry standards and Federal, State and Local Regulations.
  • Monitor compliance with CACFP and health regulations regarding food preparation and serving.
  • Observe and evaluate Child Nutrition work procedures to ensure quality standards and service.
  • Provide technical assistance the Kitchen Staff members engaged in preparing and serving food and other related duties.
  • Recommend measures to improve work procedures and worker performance to increase quality of Child Nutrition services.
  • Assist with menu planning and planning the utilization of food; based on enrollment figures, nutritional value, palatability, and costs.
  • Monitor food preparation and methods, quantities prepared, size of portions, presentation and palatability of food to ensure food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints regarding food quality and service.
  • Assist in the requisition and purchase of food, supplies and equipment.
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas, to ensure efficient service and conformance to YDI Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist in the development of the nutrition education program for parents and children.
  • Assist in the organization, development and presentation of training programs.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of Child Nutrition Budget, reviews financial transactions ensuring that expenditures are authorized and budgeted.
  • Maintain relationships with outside vendors and suppliers. Assist with solicitation and negotiation of contracts for services, supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in professional activities in order to keep abreast new approaches to food service, nutrition and its education.
  • Participate in the Health Services Advisory Committee.
  • Provide Nutrition Manager with monthly written reports on daily activities.
  • Attend all meetings, as assigned.
  • Participate in staff trainings.
  • Perform and assist in other aspects of the Child Nutrition Program, as may be assigned by the Nutrition Manager.
